Harold Kapindu better known by his stage name K-bonnie is a Malawian conscious Hip Hop artist and Journalist. He was born in Lumbadzi Township in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. He started rapping when he was in form 1 while attending Bambino High School.
Although he was born and raised in Lilongwe, K-bonnie has stayed in Blantyre (his home town as he hails from T/A Kumthembwe’s area in Chileka). He relocated to Blantyre in 2004 to continue his studies at Joyce Banda Foundation. While in Chitawira, K-Bonnie together with McDonald Mcpharoah Liabuba, Kelvin Kel Kenish Tewesa, Richard Knight Priest Mponda, Brian Psalms Sunny, Louis Pledge Mbelwa, Joseph Zig Zero Alufandika and Preston Smitty Bun Simpson Mkwate formed Maximum Sentence rap group.
In 2006, K-Bonnie released his debut ‘Press Conference’ LP. The LP was warmly received because it was one of the first Hip Hop LPs to ever been released in Malawi. Press Conference also tackled controversial socio-political issues which also attracted attention from people of all walks of life. It produced hit songs including “Hip Hop” feat Dare Devilz and “More than 30 years”.
In 2008, Maximum Sentence released its first mixtape titled ‘Hidden Faces’. The mixtape produced hit songs such as ‘U make me feel’ and ‘Story of my life’. Between 2007 and 2008, K-Bonnie took a musical break on his solo career when he was working for Star Radio as a DeeJay. In 2009, he released a mixtape called “Spiral of Silence”. In 2010, K-Bonnie released a mixtape titled “Blind Deaf Dumb” which featured Theo Thomson, The Nameless, Young Kay, Maximum Sentence and Revolver.
“Blind, Deaf, Dumb” had the hit single “Chinam’balala”. Since the release of his first album in 2006, K-Bonnie has become a mixtape artist concentrating on underground Hip Hop music. His comeback EP titled “Sheep and Crocodiles” was released in 2012 while “Non Compos Mentis” compilation album which contained some of his previous recordings was released in 2013.
His recent releases include “Sunshine Bright Lights” in 2015 and “Cry Babies” in 2018.
